Wake Me Up When September Ends - U.S. Crude Oil Loadings Retreat

U.S. crude oil loadings in the week ended September 6 decreased by 0.9 MMb/d from the prior week to 2.9 MMb/d and 24 tankers received crude oil cargoes for export, down by eight on the week. The four-week moving average (dashed red line in Figure 1 below) now stands at 3.6 MMb/d.

Crude oil flows from the Permian Basin to the U.S. Gulf Coast (USGC) dipped in March, decreasing to 5.54 MMb/d. Despite this decline, March still ranks as the third highest monthly flows to the USGC, approximately 95 Mb/d below both December 2023 and February 2024.
