The SunZia Wind Project, the largest wind farm in the U.S., began commercial operations this month. The wind farm, located in New Mexico, has a total net summer generating capacity of 3,650 megawatts (MW) and is composed of 916 wind turbines. Its capacity is more than three times larger than the next two largest wind farms, Alta Wind in Southern California (1,098 MW) and Great Prairie in northern Texas (1,027 MW). 

The continuing U.S. and Israeli war against Iran and the rapid expansion of data centers and AI dominated the conversation at this year’s CERAWeek energy conference in Houston, which gathers more than 10,000 attendees from more than 80 countries.

All 40 electrolyzers at the ACES Delta storage hub in Utah have been installed and have operated at 100% load, HydrogenPro, the site’s electrolyzer supplier, said during its Q4 2025 earnings call on February 27. The site, which is nearing completion, will be one of the largest green hydrogen production and storage facilities in the U.S. once operational.

Amazon announced it will spend as much as $200 billion this year on AI and cloud services, about double what it spent last year. 

Power solutions provider Cummins will stop new commercial efforts in its electrolyzer division, citing a weakening market and changes in federal policy support, but reported strong gains in other divisions driven by data centers, the company said in its quarterly earnings call February 5. 

Google’s parent company, Alphabet, announced it intends to nearly double its spending this year to ramp up its AI infrastructure. 

Meta intends to spend at least $115 billion this year, about 60% more than the $72 billion it spent last year as it hurries to boost its data centers and artificial intelligence program, the company said on Wednesday, January 28.
