Prior to joining RBN Energy, Mike Dunn spent two decades covering North American oil and gas equities and markets, starting in 2004 as an equities analyst at London Life Investment Management, before joining the equity research team at Calgary-based energy investment banking firm FirstEnergy Capital Corp in 2007. For most of Mike’s tenure at FirstEnergy, and its successor firms GMP Securities (2016) and Stifel Canada (2019), he led the firm’s coverage of Canada’s largest oil producers, while from 2022-2024 he also covered Canada’s largest natural gas producers. Mike holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree from McMaster University, an MBA from McGill University, and is a CFA® charterholder.

In Western Canada this week, the gas-directed rig count rose by four to 58 rigs, while the oil-directed rig count gained five to 119 rigs.
CSV Midstream Announces 35 Mb/d Fractionator at Fort Saskatchewan
CSV Midstream Solutions announced on June 9 that it plans to build a 35 Mb/d fractionation plant in Fort Saskatchewan. Subject to regulatory approval, CSV expects to make a final investment decision (FID) on the project by early 2027, targeting startup in 2029.
Canadian Rig Count: Six Oil Rigs and One Gas Rig Added This Week
In Western Canada the oil-directed rig count increased by six this week, to 113 active rigs, which is 32% higher than the prior 10-year high for this time of year, while the gas-directed rig count increased by one to 54 rigs this week, in line with the prior five-year high for this time of year.

Fluor Corporation announced on June 1 that its joint venture with JGC Corporation, JGC Fluor BC LNG II, received a Limited Notice To Proceed” (LNTP) for the proposed Phase 2 expansion of LNG Canada.
Alberta's April Crude Oil Production Holds Steady at 4.5 MMb/d
Alberta crude oil and condensate production for April was little changed from March, declining by only 22 Mb/d to average 4.492 MMb/d, and was up 162 Mb/d year-over-year, according to monthly data released by the Alberta Energy Regulator on May 29.
