Woodside Energy has completed the strategic review of its Beaumont New Ammonia facility and will initiate a formal process to reduce its investment, the company said during its Q3 2026 earnings report published October 21. The company announced plans for the review during its H1 2026 earnings presentation in August.
The Texas Railroad Commission (RRC) has approved the state’s first new carbon-capture project since it assumed primacy for Class VI injection wells in December 2025. ExxonMobil’s Rose CCS project southwest of Beaumont in Jefferson County was approved by a 2-1 vote of the RRC on September 16. The project’s three wells would permanently store about 4 million MT per year of carbon dioxide (CO2) over 13 years, or about 52 million MT overall.

CEO Liz Westcott said the company’s assets “must all compete for capital equally,” and that new energy opportunities must be supported by clear customer demands and commercial markets and compete for capital with other investment opportunities.
Production at Woodside Energy’s Beaumont New Ammonia facility was constrained to about 69% of nameplate capacity in Q2 2026 due to third-party feedstock availability, the company said during its quarterly earnings call July 28. Interim feedstock arrangements are expected to remain in place into 2027, pending progress on long-term third-party feedstock infrastructure.
Ammonia production has begun at Woodside Energy’s Beaumont New Ammonia facility in southeast Texas following the completion of systems testing, representing the first phase of operations commissioning of the facility, the company said. Commercial production of ammonia from the facility is expected to begin following handover to Woodside from OCI Global in early 2026, with production of blue ammonia targeted to start in H2 2026.
