Plug Power and Edgewood Renewables have formed a partnership to develop and construct a renewable fuels facility at an existing fuel terminal in North Las Vegas, NV, the companies said October 23.

The project is designed to process waste biomass feedstocks to produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), renewable diesel (RD) and biomethanol, while utilizing renewable natural gas (RNG) and low-carbon hydrogen. All of the fuels produced at the facility will be “drop-in” replacements for traditional products to help decarbonize transportation and heavy industrial use.

Plug Power said the partnership marks its first major engagement supporting renewable fuel production using biomass feedstocks and RNG, expanding the company’s reach beyond hydrogen into complementary clean-fuel markets. Plug will provide engineering design, key product supply, fabrication and project oversight. Construction of the facility and equipment is expected to begin in the coming months.

The announcement cited Plug Power’s experience designing and constructing large-scale hydrogen production plants in Louisiana and Georgia (see our weekly Hydrogen Billboard report for project details) as well as its track record of engineering energy infrastructure in the oil and gas sector.

Edgewood acquired the fuel terminal (see photo below) in January 2024 and said it eventually expects to produce 120 million gallons of RD/SAF each year at the site. Edgewood partner U.S. Energy serves as the terminal operator.
