According to the latest Weekly Petroleum Status Report released by the EIA, net refinery input surged by 670 Mb/d for the week ending May 30 to nearly 17.0 MMb/d (blue solid line below), increasing capacity utilization by 3.2% to 93.4%. The most notable increases were out of PADD 2 and PADD 3.

Several refineries resumed operations last week following maintenance completion, including the Valero Meraux Refinery (PADD 3), the Valero Ardmore Refinery (PADD 2), and the Calcasieu Lake Charles Refinery (PADD 3). Net refinery input now sits just below 2024 levels (purple dashed line below), which had reached a five-year high of 17.1 MMb/d week ending May 31 last year. Seeing as refinery demand is expected to remain strong in June and July, we will continue to monitor net refinery inputs to see if 2025 can surpass 2024 levels and set new five-year highs.
