A $680 million investment by JPMorgan using tax-equity financing, enabled by provisions in 2022’s Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), will help fund the completion of a pair of large-scale solar/storage projects being developed by Ørsted in the Southwest, the clean energy developer said May 23.
The Eleven Mile Solar Center (see photo below), which features a 300-MW solar farm and 300 MW of battery storage able to discharge for four hours, equal to 1,200 MWh, is planned for Pinal County, AZ, southeast of Phoenix. About two-thirds of the power generated by the project, Ørsted’s first in Arizona, will be used at a new Meta data center being developed nearby. As we wrote recently in Storm Front, the emergence of large-scale data centers has left many companies and utilities scrambling to meet the expected surge in power demand.
