Throughput on the Mars Oil Pipeline has rebounded from the year’s lows when storms during hurricane season disrupted E&P operations across the Gulf of Mexico (GOM), based on the latest state data.

The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June through the end of November. This year's wasn't quite as busy as in the past, but some storms were notably disruptive (see Brave).

According to the latest Louisiana data, volumes on the Mars system reached 532.2 Mb/d in October, recovering from the lowest for the year set the month prior at 462.5 Mb/d. The volumes in September were the lowest since 2022. The flows on this system are indicative of production in Mars Blend crude, a regional medium-sour crude benchmark.

The Mars pipeline is operated by Shell, and co-owned by Shell Midstream and BP Midstream. While it connects to several GOM fields in the Mars corridor, it also receives barrels from the Amberjack pipeline which connects to other Gulf fields. Amberjack pipeline is co-owned by operator Shell Pipeline and Chevron Pipeline.
