U.S. oil and gas rig count gained five rigs to 548 for the week ending April 2 according to Baker Hughes data, published Thursday ahead of the Good Friday holiday, as gains in the Eagle Ford (+3), Haynesville (+1), Niobrara (+1) and Permian (+1) more than offset a one-rig decline in the Bakken (-1). Total U.S. rig count is up three over the last 90 days but remains 42 rigs below this week in 2025.
