U.S. oil and gas rig count gained one rig to 548 for the week ending May 8 according to Baker Hughes data, with little movement across most basins. Rigs were added in the Anadarko (+1) and Permian (+1), the Gulf of Mexico (-1) was the only basin to post a week-on-week decline, and all other basins were unchanged. Oil-directed rigs edged up to 410 (+2) while gas-directed rigs slipped to 129 (-1) and miscellaneous rigs were unchanged at 9. Total U.S. rig count is down three over the last 90 days but remains 29 rigs below this week a year ago, the narrowest year-over-year gap since late January.
