U.S. electric vehicle sales continued to accelerate in Q1 2023, jumping to 258,885, up 45% from the year-ago period, according to newly released data from Kelley Blue Book.
Tesla retained its dominant position with 161,630 vehicles sold, up 25% from a year ago, although it share of the EV market fell to 62% from 72% a year ago. GM moved into the No. 2 spot in the EV market with 19,700 sales, up from just 358 in Q1 2022. Rounding out the top five (see graphic below) were Ford, Volkswagen and Hyundai.
