U.S. oil and gas rig count was unchanged for the second consecutive week, holding at 588 for the week ending September 4 according to Baker Hughes data, as one-rig gains in the Permian and  Niobrara were matched by one-rig declines in Appalachia and the Gulf of Mexico. Oil-directed rigs edged up to 449 (+2) while gas-directed rigs slipped to 130 (-2) and miscellaneous rigs were unchanged at 9. Total U.S. rig count is up 25 over the last 90 days and now stands 51 rigs above this week in 2025.
