U.S. oil and gas rig count gained three rigs to 547 for the week ending May 1 according to Baker Hughes data, as gains in the Eagle Ford (+1), Haynesville (+1) and All Other (+3) eclipsed declines in the Niobrara (-1) and Permian (-1). Haynesville's one-rig gain brought it to 67, matching its highest level since May 2023 and up 22 rigs (+49%) from this week last year, even as the broader count remains well below year-ago levels. Oil-directed rigs edged up to 408 (+1) and gas-directed rigs climbed to 130 (+1), while miscellaneous rigs rose to 9 (+1). Total U.S. rig count is up one over the last 90 days but remains 37 rigs below this week in 2025.
