U.S. oil and gas rig count fell by one rig to 598 for the week ending October 2 according to Baker Hughes data, as declines in the Eagle Ford (-2) and Haynesville (-1) outweighed gains in Gulf of Mexico (+1) and the Niobrara (+1). Despite the overall decline, oil-directed rigs edged up to 456 (+1) while gas-directed rigs slipped to 133 (-2) and miscellaneous rigs were unchanged at 9. Total U.S. rig count is up 18 over the last 90 days and now stands 49 rigs above this week in 2025.
