U.S. oil and gas rig count climbed five rigs to 593 for the week ending August 14 according to Baker Hughes data, as gains in Haynesville (+3), Permian (+2), Anadarko (+1) and All Other (+1) outpaced a two-rig decline in Gulf of Mexico. Haynesville's three-rig gain pushed it to 72, its highest level since May 2023 and up 20 rigs (+38%) from this week last year. Gas-directed rigs climbed to 128 (+4) and oil-directed rigs edged up to 455 (+1), while miscellaneous rigs were unchanged at 10. Total U.S. rig count is up 42 over the last 90 days and now stands 54 rigs above this week in 2025.
