The Port of Houston on Thursday (7/11) was open to traffic without draft restrictions, three days after Hurricane Beryl slammed into the Texas Coast.

Response crews have largely completed post-storm surveys of the port, allowing vessel traffic to move normally with a 45-foot draft. The draft had been restricted to 35 feet. In 2023, the Houston Ship Channel typically had 69 ships in the port per day, including 44 tankers and 17 freighters. About 70% of cargo that moves in and out of the Houston Ship Channel is liquid bulk, which includes crude oil.
