On March 20, several news outlets reported that Mark Maki, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Trans Mountain Corporation (TMC), the Canadian federally owned corporation building the Trans Mountain Pipeline expansion (TMX), confirmed that partial line fill of TMX has been underway and that the pipeline is filling in segments prior to the expansion’s commercial start-up, still expected in the second quarter of 2024. Mr. Maki also stated his opinion that TMX will be highly utilized in 2025 and could be potentially running full by 2025-26. He also confirmed that one final 2.5 kilometer (~1.6 mile) segment of pipeline remains to be installed in southern British Columbia (red dashed oval in map below) and that work to complete this task may take place in the next week or two.
