A federal judge has given Enbridge 3 years to shut down parts of Line 5 that crosses reservation land and ordered them to pay the Bad River Band more than $5 million for trespassing.  The order issued last Friday (6/16) from U.S. District Judge William Conley came after members of the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa told him during a hearing in the Wisconsin's capital that the Enbridge Line 5 pipeline is at immediate risk of being exposed by erosion and rupturing on their land.

In the order  Judge Conley wrote, "The court will give Enbridge an additional three years to complete a reroute. If Enbridge fails to do so, the three years will at least give the public and other affected market players time to adjust to a permanent closure of Line 5,"
