Natural gas consumption for power generation (“power burn”) in Canada’s most populous province of Ontario is on track for a monthly record based on data compiled in RBN’s Canadian NatGas Billboard. To mid-July 2025, the power burn has averaged 1.13 Bcf/d (black text in chart below), just slightly behind the record month of February 2025 when the burn was 1.17 Bcf/d (red text). The burn of February was compounded by colder than average weather and short-term unplanned outages at three of Ontario’s nuclear power generation sites, while the July burn has been driven by much warmer than average weather, creating large air conditioning loads.
