The first map showing the prospective locations of naturally occurring geologic hydrogen resources in the contiguous U.S. was published Friday by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The map is derived from an analysis of geologic conditions favorable for hydrogen.
The map is the first of its kind at a continental scale and shows the likely underground areas to explore for geologic hydrogen, the USGS said. It reveals areas of interest that have the potential to hold accumulations of geologic hydrogen, including the Midcontinent and Mid-Atlantic regions, the Four Corners states (Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah), and the California coast.
