INEOS Energy has purchased the Gulf of Mexico (GOM) business of CNOOC Energy Holdings, a U.S. subsidiary of China’s CNOOC international.

The deal includes equity in Appomattox and Stampede in the GOM, and a few more mature and supporting assets.

The transaction boosts INEOS’s production globally to over 90 Mboe/d. The latest assets are the third major U.S. investments by INEOS in the past three years. In 2022, INEOS inked a deal to buy 1.4 million tons per annum (mtpa) of LNG from Sempra that will come from Phase 1 of their Port Arthur, TX, LNG facility; in 2023, it bought Chesapeake Energy’s oil and gas assets in South Texas.

The Hess-operated Stampede deepwater oil and gas field is located 115 miles south of Fourchon, LA, at Green Canyon Blocks 468, 511 and 512. Crude from the field can flow into Poseidon crude stream. The Shell-operated Appomattox field is located about 80 miles southeast of Louisiana, and its supplies join the Thunder Horse stream. In December, Mars Blend differentials averaged 41c/bbl above NYMEX oil futures, up sharply from 65c/bbl discount in November, according to Link Data Services.
