Gas storage in the Western Canadian province of Alberta, the region in Canada with the greatest amount of storage capacity, reached 522 Bcf as of October 14 (blue circle and text in chart below). Based on data from RBN’s Canadian NatGas Billboard, this latest reading is a record for this time of year, 5 Bcf more than last year and 86 Bcf greater than the five-year average. RBN estimates that Alberta gas storage will exit October, marking the end of the injection season, at a record 529 Bcf (red circle and text), 5 Bcf more than last year, 88 Bcf greater than the five-year average and well stocked ahead of the traditional start of the heating season on November 1. This would be 11 Bcf short of the province’s estimated working gas capacity of 540 Bcf (black dashed line) which is based on a combination of posted capacity by storage operators and maximum observed gas in storage.
