Gas storage in the Western Canadian province of Alberta, the region in Canada with the greatest amount of storage capacity, fell to 471 Bcf as of December 23 (blue line and text in chart below). Based on data from RBN’s Canadian NatGas Billboard, this latest reading is just 6 Bcf less than last year and a plentiful 76 Bcf higher than the five-year average. The year-on-year deficit is the first for the current heating season after a very mild November which has since transitioned to several weeks of below average temperatures to date in December.
