Starting in June 2023, cargos of WTI Midland can be delivered into the “Dated Brent” market.   This is a major change in the specifications for Brent, which for decades has been restricted to only crudes produced in the North Sea.

Dated Brent is a component of the “Brent Complex”, which is administered by Platts (S&P Global) and Intercontinental Exchange (ICE).  For a WTI Midland cargo to be delivered into the Brent market, the deal must be transacted on the Platts Market-On-Close platform.

Brent MOC cargos are restricted to 700,000-barrel Aframax ships.    Only cargos loaded at U.S. Gulf Coast terminals certified by Platts to meet WTI Midland quality specifications will be accepted into the Brent delivery process.  As indicated in the graphic below, many Corpus Christi and Houston terminals have been certified by Platts.
