Western Midstream Partners said Wednesday it will acquire Aris Water Solutions for $1.5 billion, a move it said would create a fully integrated produced-water value chain in the Delaware Basin, including long-haul transportation via its Pathfinder pipeline.

As we noted recently in Shake, Rattle and Roll, the steady growth in produced water volumes and seismic activity in the Permian Basin has led to the development of large-diameter, long-haul pipelines that transport massive amounts of produced water to new (or underutilized) disposal wells and/or centralized recycling facilities. Western Midstream’s planned 42-mile, 30-inch-diameter Pathfinder (dashed orange line in map below), which was sanctioned in February, will transport produced water from the company’s gathering systems in the Delaware Basin (blue lines) to existing and planned disposal wells in eastern Loving County, TX.
