China imposed a 10% import duty on U.S. crude oil on Tuesday in response to the Trump administration's decision to levy an additional 10% tariff on all Chinese goods entering the U.S.

We don’t anticipate this move will significantly impact U.S. crude exports. According to our Crude Voyager report, China has made up less than 5% of U.S. Gulf Coast exports since mid-2024, down from 8.5% in 2023 and the peak of 11.5% in 2020 (see orange stacked area in chart below).
