Pony Express Pipeline, operated by Tallgrass, announced a new binding open season for crude oil transportation from its Carpenter terminal (see red circled area on map below) in southeastern Wyoming in exchange for incentive tariff rates. The open season, which will run for 30 days, commenced on September 20. The ~450 Mb/d Pony Express Pipeline transports crude oil from Guernsey, WY, to Cushing, OK. It also provides transportation service via its 90 Mb/d Northeast Colorado Lateral (NECL) in the heart of Denver-Julesburg (DJ) Basin, which is where this open season is focused.

The primary long-haul pipelines out of the DJ are the Saddlehorn/Grand Mesa (340 Mb/d), White Cliffs (100 Mb/d) and Pony Express systems, which together have the capacity to move almost 900 Mb/d of oil from the DJ (and other production areas to the north) to Cushing. The DJ is a significant crude oil producer, with Weld County, CO, alone producing about 360 Mb/d in recent months and the rest of northeastern Colorado chipping in another 60 Mb/d or so.
