Crude oil exports from the U.S. Gulf Coast posted the largest gain in nine weeks, rising by 521 Mb/d as terminals collectively loaded over 4.1 MMb/d in the week ended August 18 as per the weekly Crude Voyager report. The steepest rise in shipments was noted from the Corpus Christi region, which loaded its second-highest weekly volume at 2.8 MMb/d, only 65 Mb/d short of the peak recorded in April. Last week’s spike from the Corpus Christi region was largely attributed to eight Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCC) loading partially in the area. The maximum partial loading of VLCCs we have noted in a single week was nine in April.
Thirteen VLCCs entered the Gulf of Mexico last week for loading – the highest in four months. As a result, we expect more cargoes to be loaded over the next few weeks onto supertankers, either directly at terminals or via ship-to-ship transfers.
