Occidental Petroleum (Oxy) and the Abu Dhabi National Oil Corporation (ADNOC) agreed October 3 to begin a preliminary engineering study for the first megaton-scale direct air capture (DAC) facility outside the U.S.
The study will assess the potential for a facility that would capture 1 million metric tons per annum (MMtpa) of carbon dioxide (CO2). It would be connected to ADNOC’s CO2 infrastructure for permanent sequestration in saline reservoirs not used for oil and gas production.
