Two regional hydrogen hubs under development in the U.S. have received a combined $2.2 billion in award commitments from the Department of Energy (DOE), a major step forward for each, the agency announced November 20.
The Gulf Coast Hydrogen Hub (#4 in map below) will receive up to $1.2 billion while the Midwest Hydrogen Hub (#6) will receive up to $1 billion. The awards are intended to help accelerate the commercial-scale deployment of low-cost, clean hydrogen, a major initiative under the Biden administration. Funding for the hubs comes from 2021’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. It is uncertain whether the incoming Trump administration will seek to revise the current U.S. initiatives around clean hydrogen.
