Enterprise Products Partners has agreed to develop a carbon dioxide (CO2) transportation network to support 1PointFive’s planned Bluebonnet Sequestration hub in southeast Texas. Occidental Petroleum owns1PointFive.
Under a Transportation Services Agreement, once 1PointFive provides notice, Enterprise will develop a new pipeline network and provide fee-based transportation services to 1PointFive to transport CO2 emissions captured by third parties at facilities in the Houston Ship Channel area to the Bluebonnet Hub. The new network will be located with existing pipeline assets.
1PointFive has leased land for the project in the northeast section of Chambers County, TX (see map below), and drilled a data well in December 2022 for rock sample analysis.
The Bluebonnet project was recently awarded over $16 million in funding from the Department of Energy (DOE) to support its development. The hub will enable the capture and sequestration of 8 million metric tons (Mt) of CO2 per year for a 15-year period, with the potential for future expansion up to 26 million Mt per year and more than 350 million Mt total storage capacity, the DOE said on its website. Carbon capture is seen as playing a critical role in energy transition plans, especially in heavy industries like power, steel, cement and oil and gas.
