The week ended December 16 saw bone-chilling cold across much of the Northeast. New York City was hit by a snowstorm over the weekend, and the National Weather Service reported that such a large snowfall so early in the season had not been seen since 2018. Residential and commercial gas demand peaked at 19.5 Bcf/d on Sunday to help keep homes and businesses warm. Meanwhile, freezing temperatures also helped tighten the market on the demand side, as dry gas production fell substantially on Sunday and Monday, particularly in West Virginia.
