In Western Canada the gas-directed rig count rose by two to 64 rigs, while the oil-directed rig count was unchanged at 139 rigs, for the week ended September 11, according to Baker Hughes data. The gas rig count is six higher than at this time last year, and one above the prior five-year average for this time of year (see left chart below), while the oil rig count is 18 higher than at this time last year, and 18 above the prior five-year average for this time of year (see right chart below).
British Columbia and Saskatchewan both added one gas rig this past week (see table below).
Saskatchewan added two oil rigs this past week, while Alberta dropped two oil rigs (see table below).
