In Western Canada, the gas-directed rig count rose by one to 57 rigs, while the oil-directed rig count gained seven to 134 rigs, for the week ended June 26, according to Baker Hughes data. The gas-directed rig count is 11 higher than at this time last year, and two below the prior five-year high for this time of year (see left chart below), while the oil-directed rig count is 42 higher than at this time last year, and 25 higher than the prior five-year high for this time of year (see right chart below).

Saskatchewan added one gas-directed rig (see table below).

Five of the seven oil-directed rigs added were in Northeast Alberta (see table below).
