In Western Canada the gas-directed rig count was unchanged at 65 active rigs, while the oil-directed rig count rose by 4 to 146 rigs, for the week ended August 14, according to Baker Hughes data. The gas rig count is 8 higher than at this time last year, and 9 below the prior five-year high for this time of year (see left chart below), while the oil rig count is 25 higher than at this time last year, and 3 above the prior five-year high for this time of year (see right chart below).
