Total U.S. crude oil imports surged last week, climbing 810 Mb/d to 6.2 MMb/d—driven largely by a sharp rebound in Canadian volumes. Imports from Canada jumped 850 Mb/d to just under 4 MMb/d, bouncing back from the prior week’s drop to the lowest level since August 26, 2022. This uptick comes just days ahead of a potential new import tariff deadline on April 2, proposed by the Trump administration.
The gains were spread across PADDs 2, 4, and 5, with increases of 350 Mb/d, 160 Mb/d, and 290 Mb/d, respectively. Meanwhile, imports from Mexico rose by 200 Mb/d to 400 Mb/d, and Latin America added another 150 Mb/d.
