Calpine’s Baytown Carbon Capture and Storage Project will begin Phase 1 activities after receiving $12.5 million in federal funding, the Department of Energy’s Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations (OCED) said July 10.

The carbon-capture demonstration facility aims to capture carbon dioxide (CO2) from the Baytown Energy Center (see photo below), a natural gas combined-cycle power plant in Baytown, TX. The project would be the first full-scale implementation of CCS technology at a natural gas combined-cycle power plant in the U.S., the OCED said.
