Alberta’s crude oil output in July 2025 rose to a record 4.32 MMb/d (height of stacked columns inside dashed rectangle in chart below), a gain of 0.26 MMb/d versus June, 0.31 MMb/d greater than a year ago, and edged out the previous record holder of 4.26 MMb/d set in December 2024. The full return of numerous oil sands sites from turnarounds and an ongoing ramp up of expansion work at existing production sites contributed to the new record. The new threshold was assisted by record output of non-upgraded bitumen (green columns) of 2.31 MMb/d, gaining 0.08 MMb/d over June (itself the previous record holder). Additional strong gains were also made in synthetic crude oil (red columns) of 0.32 MMb/d to 1.36 MMb/d, the eighth highest output level for this category.
