Air Products has canceled plans to build a green hydrogen project in Massena, NY, citing recent regulatory developments, the company announced Tuesday. It was one of three projects canceled after a review initiated by the company’s newly elected board of directors and CEO and came just a few days after Fortescue said it was rethinking the timeline of its Arizona Hydrogen project.
The Massena project (see rendering below) would have produced 35,000 kg/d of green liquid hydrogen. Air Products said the decision to cancel the project was based on recent regulatory developments rendering existing hydroelectric power supply ineligible for the Clean Hydrogen Production Tax Credit (45V) as well as slower-than-expected development of a hydrogen mobility market in the region.
