MVP Boost, the plan to add 0.6 Bcf/d of capacity to the Mountain Valley Pipeline traversing West Virginia and Virginia, has hit a snag. The project requires upgrading three existing compressor stations as well as building an entirely new compressor station in Montgomery County, VA, called Swann. All four compressor stations are along the portion of the line that is in dark blue in the map. However, county supervisors passed a resolution that said the Swann site is unsuitable for a compressor station because of an issue with a railroad that occasionally blocks the only access road. This resolution contradicts an earlier signature from the county attorney stating that the site is suitable. The conflict within county government is holding up the issuance of a state air permit and jeopardizing the project’s target to be flowing gas by mid-2028.
