On Monday (7/1), a federal judge issued an immediate stay of the Biden administration’s January order halting new LNG export permit approvals, potentially throwing a wrench into Biden’s climate policies and giving a victory to the energy industry. The Biden administration in January announced it would pause all new LNG export permit approvals amid reviews of economic and environmental effects of approving new projects. In response, 16 Republican-led states sued in March, and U.S. District Judge James Cain Jr. in Louisiana granted a temporary injunction in their favor while the case plays out.
