A fierce nor’easter slammed the Northeast earlier this week, bringing high wind and rain across the highly populated Acela corridor. Winter nor’easters frequently coincide with blizzards, extreme cold weather and high gas demand. In early October, however, the effect on temperatures was muted.

Overall Northeast demand for the week ended October 14 averaged 14.4 Bcf/d, up 0.4 Bcf/d week-on-week. Power demand decreased by 1 Bcf/d while Industrial and Res/Comm demand each moved up by 0.5 Bcf/d. Regional demand not including LNG feedgas was 0.4 Bcf/d lower than last year but 0.3 Bcf/d higher than the 5-year average. LNG feedgas returned to Cove Point on Sunday after being offline for maintenance since September 20. The weekly average was 0.4 Bcf/d, which averages together no feedgas from Wednesday through Saturday and high feedgas from Sunday through Tuesday. As seen in the chart below, LNG feedgas at Cove Point is remarkably steady apart from the roughly 3-week maintenance period, which occurs every year.
