Crude oil flows from the Permian Basin to Nederland, TX, remained stable in September 2024 for the fourth consecutive month, according to latest data from our Crude Oil Permian report. Nederland-bound flows totaled 860 Mb/d, a modest 4 Mb/d increase from August (see orange line on graph below).

With pipelines to Corpus Christi running near capacity for some time, there has been a gradual shift in flows to the U.S. Gulf Coast. Nederland’s share of total Permian flows to the U.S. Gulf Coast grew from 13% in  January 2024 to 15% in September.

There are two Nederland-bound oil pipelines from the Permian Basin, both operated by Energy Transfer — the Permian Express (PE) system and West Texas Gulf (WTG) Pipeline. Together, they boast a combined capacity of nearly 1 MMb/d. In September, flows on WTG declined 19 Mb/d compared to the prior month, but this drop was more than offset by the PE system, which saw a 22 Mb/d increase for the same period.
