Operations at the CNOOC-operated Buzzard oil field in the North Sea have been temporarily suspended, although the reasons are unclear. Its outage, if prolonged, could impact prices for international benchmark Brent crude, according to trade press reports.
Supply from the Buzzard field flows into INEOS-operated Forties Pipeline System to become part of the Forties Blend, one of the grades that underpins the Dated Brent benchmark. The field is located about 100 kilometers (62 miles) northeast of Aberdeen, UK, and produced first oil in 2007. Buzzard oil is a medium density, sour crude with gravity of 32.6 API and sulfur content at 1.44% wt, and is the largest component field of the Forties Blend.
