The price of U.S. Henry Hub natural gas in 2023 will average about 40% of the 2022 price, as shown in the left graph below.  Last year (green line), spiking LNG and a hefty war premium drove natgas to the highest level since 2008.  This year (blue line), robust lower-48 production and modest demand have pulled prices lower, with natgas averaging only $2.67/MMbtu for the year. 

As shown in the right graph, the 2023 price is well below the $4/MMbtu average price since 2007, with only four years over the past 17 (red marker) suffering a lower price than 2023.
