NextDecade Corp., after securing $18.4 billion in financing, has closed a deal to commence Phase 1 of its proposed three-train Rio Grande LNG export facility to be located near Brownsville, TX. The addition of the terminal would increase total U.S. feedgas capacity to a whopping 24.7 Bcf/d by 2030 (see chart below). It is the third LNG export project to reach FID this year, following Sempra Energy’s Port Arthur LNG phase 1, also in Texas, and Venture Global’s Plaquemines phase 2 in Louisiana.
