Based on data from the U.S. Census Bureau, re-exports of Canadian heavy crude oil from the Gulf Coast in April 2024 averaged 196 Mb/d (height of the rightmost stacked columns in chart below), an increase of 42 Mb/d from March, but 98 Mb/d below the year ago level. China was again the largest buyer (rightmost red column) at 94 Mb/d, above the 79 Mb/d rate of March, but well below the single monthly record set a year ago at 243 Mb/d. Two other nations accounted for the remainder of the April re-exports with India (gray columns) taking 67 Mb/d, up 3 Mb/d from March and versus zero a year ago; Spain (blue columns) rounded out the rest at 35 Mb/d, up from zero in March, but down from 51 Mb/d a year ago.
