PetroChina will not be a committed shipper going forward on the newly commissioned Trans Mountain Expansion (TMX) crude system, according to a filing with the Canada Energy Regulator.

The space has been taken up by Canadian Natural Resources, according to market sources. The company didn’t respond to email seeking comment.

The 590-Mb/d Trans Mountain Expansion (TMX, green line) runs from Edmonton, AB, to the Westridge docks in British Columbia, almost parallel to the older 300 Mb/d Trans Mountain Pipeline (TMP). The new system experienced plenty of setbacks leading up to its eventual startup in May 2024. It was widely touted as a better way for western Canadian produers to market their supplies to Asia, instead of via the U.S. Gulf Coast.
