The Energy Information Administration (EIA) released its weekly natural gas storage report on Thursday, showing an 84 Bcf injection for the week ending May 24. This equaled the two highest of the 12 estimates submitted to the Bloomberg survey and was higher than the survey’s median of 78 Bcf. While the injection was bearish relative to market expectations, it was lower than the injection for the same time last year so the surplus to the prior year continues to dwindle. The gas storage surplus to last year has fallen by more than 55% since the start of March.
