The differential between the price of propane in Asia (Argus FEI-Far East Index), and Mont Belvieu has blasted to more than $300/mt (60 cents/gallon) so far this month (right graph below).  Freight and terminaling rates have not risen as fast, which means that the U.S.-Asia export arbitrage for propane is wide open.  U.S. propane exports have averaged a record 1.6 MMb/d for the past two months and are expected to continue at that level through the remainder of the year.

As shown in the left graph below, the FEI vs. Mont Belvieu propane price differential has been on an upward trajectory for several years, with the only pullback during the COVID period.  From less than $75/mt in 2017, the differential has averaged $225/mt so far this year.  This reflects strong Asian chemicals demand – mostly China.

From platts, the terminaling rates went up to 12-15 cents per gallon, isn't that a huge rise?
